When a Trial Ends or a Payment Fails: What Happens Next
In brief: A trial ending without a plan returns you to the free tier; a failed payment starts a 10-day grace period. Nothing is deleted.
Applies to: Everyone in the workspace, though only an Owner can settle billing or choose a plan.

If your trial ends without a paid plan, your workspace returns to the free tier and your active Jobs are archived. Nothing is charged and nothing is deleted. If a payment fails on a paid plan, you get a 10-day grace period with daily retries before anything changes, and paying inside that window puts everything straight back. Whatever happens, your data stays.
You'll find it under Settings → Billing.
The short version
There are two different situations here and they are worth keeping apart.
- Your trial ended and you did not choose a plan. No charge, no drama. You land on the free tier.
- You are on a paid plan and a payment failed. You get 10 days and about ten retry attempts to sort it out.
In both cases, every Job, Task, time entry, contact, and message you have created is preserved. What the free tier still gives you, and what a paid plan adds back, is set out in Net Net Pricing: Free Tier, 60-Day Trial, and Paid Plans.
When your trial ends
If you chose a plan during the trial
Your plan takes effect on the day the trial expires, and billing starts from that point. Nothing is interrupted.
The one thing to check: a valid card needs to be on file when the trial ends. If the plan you selected cannot be charged that day, Net Net treats it as no plan chosen and the workspace returns to free.
If you did not choose a plan
Net Net will not charge you and will not pick a plan for you, including when a card is already on file from signup. Instead:
- Your workspace moves to the permanent free tier
- Net Net archives your Active and Completed Jobs
- Everything is preserved, including all of the work inside those Jobs
- The workspace owner gets an email letting them know the trial ended and how many Jobs were archived
You keep your free-tier features: your workspace, Contacts, Quick Tasks, and My Lists.
To pick things back up later, choose a plan and bring your Jobs back out of the archive. There is no window on this and nothing expires while you decide. Archived is one of the four Job statuses, and what each one means is explained in Job Lifecycle: Pending, Active, Completed, Archived.
When a payment fails
Cards expire, banks decline things, billing addresses change. Net Net does not shut anything off over one failed charge.
The 10-day grace period
The moment a payment fails:
- Net Net marks the invoice as failed
- A 10-day grace period starts on your workspace
- The workspace owner gets a payment-failed email
- Net Net retries the payment automatically, roughly once a day, for the whole of those 10 days
Your workspace keeps working normally through all of this. Active Jobs stay active, your team keeps working, Chat and reporting stay on.
The retries run alongside the grace period rather than after it, so a failed payment gets about ten attempts inside the window.
Fixing it
Update the card under Settings → Billing. The next daily retry picks it up, or you can settle the invoice directly.
If the 10 days run out
If the grace period ends without a successful payment, Net Net suspends the workspace. This is an operational change, not just a banner:
- The plan is forced back to free and marked suspended
- Billing cycle dates are cleared
- Active and Completed Jobs are archived
- Any open draft invoice is closed out and stops retrying automatically
Getting back after a suspension
Settle the outstanding invoice, then choose a plan again. Suspension puts the workspace on the free tier, so it does not remember which paid plan you were on.
Your archived Jobs are all still there with their Deliverables, Tasks, time, and messages intact, ready for you to bring back when you are running again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be charged automatically when my trial ends?
No. Net Net never converts a trial to a paid plan on its own. If you did not choose a plan, the workspace returns to the free tier and your active Jobs are archived. Any card held from signup is not charged.
What happens to my work when my Jobs are archived?
Nothing is lost. Archived Jobs keep everything inside them. Deliverables, Tasks, time entries, and messages are all preserved, and you can bring the Jobs back out of the archive once you are on a plan again.
How long do I have if my card fails?
10 days. A failed payment starts a 10-day grace period during which Net Net retries the payment roughly once a day and your workspace keeps working normally. Suspension only happens if those 10 days pass without a successful payment.
Does my team lose access while a payment is failing?
No. Everything keeps working during the 10-day grace period. Active Jobs, Chat, and reporting all stay available. Access only changes if the grace period expires without payment.
Can I invite someone while my workspace is suspended?
No. Invite acceptance is blocked until billing is sorted out. The person you invited sees a message telling them the workspace is not active and to contact the owner. People already in the workspace are not removed.
How do I get my workspace back after a suspension?
Settle the outstanding invoice and choose a plan again. Suspension moves the workspace to the free tier, so it does not restore the previous plan by itself. Once you are on a plan, you can bring your archived Jobs back.
Is any of my data deleted if I stop paying?
No. Net Net does not delete your data over billing. Jobs are archived, not removed, and everything inside them stays exactly as you left it for as long as the workspace exists.
