Today Dashboard Preview: What Needs a Decision Now

Coming at the end of August 2026. Performance Dashboards are not in Net Net yet. This article previews how the Today tab will work so you know what to expect when it arrives. Nothing described below is clickable in your workspace today.

In brief: Coming August 2026, the Today tab will list the Jobs needing a decision now, each with a reason, a number, and an action.

Applies to: Owners and Admins, the only roles that see the Performance section.

Today will answer one question: what needs a decision right now, before I step away? It will open with a plain statement of whether today's numbers can be trusted, give you a one-line read of the day, then list the Jobs that need you, sorted by urgency. It works at the Job level rather than the Deliverable level, because owners think in clients and Jobs, not in individual Deliverables. Everything quiet stays quiet.

This is the morning triage tab. If you open one Dashboard a day, this will be the one. It is one of the five tabs previewed in Performance Dashboards: Five Tabs Coming August 2026.

It will start by telling you whether to trust it

The first thing on the screen will not be a number. It will be a calm data-trust line, because every figure below it depends on people having logged their time in My Time.

It will read something like "Mostly current. 2 people have active work they have not logged recently." If logging is behind, the rest of the screen is suspect, so this sits first rather than buried at the bottom.

Net Net will measure hygiene by recency and by unlogged active work, never against an assumed daily schedule. Net Net does not know anyone's working hours, so a contractor who logs in bursts and has no active work this week will never be flagged. Someone actively working five Deliverables with nothing logged in four days will be.

Then a one-line read of the day

Below the trust line will be a plain split of your active Jobs into the ones that need attention and the ones that do not. Something like "3 Jobs need a decision today. The other 12 Jobs are on track."

No percentage, no composite health score, no gauge. Just the count.

Jobs that need you

This will be the heart of the screen: a list of Jobs, not Deliverables.

A Job will appear here when it has real drift evidence or a data gap that blocks trust. Drift evidence means the same thing it means everywhere else in Net Net, described in How Performance Works: a Deliverable that is overdue, effort past 100% of plan, retainer cycle pressure, or Progress Confidence set to Low. A data gap means something is missing that makes the numbers unreliable, such as a task with no owner or a Deliverable with no hour estimate.

Each Job will be one card, answering four things at a glance.

Who it is. The client and the Job name, tagged Project or Retainer.

Why it is here. One plain-English reason, in the language that fits the Job type. A Project speaks in due dates and effort: "Over planned effort, due in 2 days." A Retainer speaks in cycle pace: "Burning the retainer early, 82% used in week 2." A data gap speaks plainly: "Due in 2 days, and one task has no owner."

One number. Effort used against plan for a Project, or cycle hours used for a Retainer. There will be no second Job-level timeline meter, because timeline lives on the Deliverable and is one tap down.

What to do. A visible way to act, offering the same responses documented in Responding to Drift: What You Can Actually Do, plus a Message button that opens the Job or retainer chat. The action list will be context-aware: a Retainer cycle is not a Deliverable, so Deliverable-only actions will not be offered on a retainer card. Message is communication, not a drift response.

"Due in X days" and "late" will always be read from a real date: a Deliverable's due date, or a Project's end date. Today will never invent a Job-level ship date that does not exist in your plan.

How the list will be sorted

By management urgency, not alphabetically and not by size:

Due soon on its own

The quiet work stays quiet

Below the list will be a reassurance line stating how many Jobs are fine, something like "12 more Jobs, all on track."

That line is doing real work. A triage screen is only trustworthy if you believe the things it left out were genuinely left out on purpose.

Coming up

A small panel will show what lands in the next two weeks, using date-based facts only: upcoming deadlines and retainer resets. Alongside it, a compact capacity peek will give you a single team-load read that links through to the Capacity tab.

Coming up will not pull in sales pipeline or won deals starting soon. An opportunity carries no hours until it becomes a planned Job, so forward demand in hours is not knowable, and Net Net will not guess at it.

What Today will not be

It will not be a report. It will not be a flat list of every Deliverable, since Deliverable detail lives one tap into the Job. It will not show money. And in the first version it will carry no trend arrows, because comparing today to last week needs a nightly health snapshot that does not exist yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Performance Dashboards available today?

No. They are scheduled to arrive at the end of August 2026. Until then, the closest thing to this view is opening the Jobs you are worried about and reading each one's Performance tab directly.

Why will Today list Jobs instead of Deliverables?

Because owners think in clients and Jobs. "Brightline is becoming a problem" is a Job-level thought. Deliverable detail is one tap into the Job, where the Performance tab already breaks drift down Deliverable by Deliverable.

What will put a Job on the list?

Real drift evidence, or a data gap. Drift evidence means a Deliverable overdue, effort past 100% of plan, retainer cycle pressure, or Low Progress Confidence. A data gap means something missing that makes the numbers untrustworthy, like a task with no owner or a missing hour estimate.

Why does the trust line come before the numbers?

Because unlogged time makes every number below it wrong. If two people have active work they have not logged in days, the effort figures on this screen understate reality. Net Net would rather tell you that up front than let you make a decision on incomplete data.

Will Today tell me someone is behind on logging their time?

Only when they have active work sitting unlogged. Net Net has no daily or weekly schedule for anyone, so it will never judge logging cadence against an assumed workday. It flags stale active work, which is a fact, rather than a missed quota, which would be a guess.

Will Today show me deals that are about to start?

No. An opportunity has no hours attached until it becomes a planned Job, so Net Net cannot honestly convert pipeline into forward demand. Coming up sticks to real dates: upcoming deadlines and retainer resets.
