# Sales Clarity: How Linked Jobs Make a Deal Plannable

||| Sales in Net Net is coming in Q3 2026. This article previews how it will work so you can plan for it, but the Sales area isn't in the app yet. When it ships, this note will come down.

**In brief:** Coming Q3 2026, Sales Clarity will rank each Opportunity Fog, Emerging, or Clear, derived from whether a value and a linked Job exist.

**Applies to:** Everyone in the workspace, once Sales ships in Q3 2026.

**See also:** Sales Opportunities, Not a CRM: A Q3 2026 Preview covers what an Opportunity is, and Plan Stepper: How to Build a Job Plan Step by Step covers the plan that makes one Clear.

**Sales Clarity will be Net Net's answer to one question: can we plan around this yet? It has three levels. Fog means no budget and no linked Job. Emerging means a budget is set but still no linked Job. Clear means at least one Job is linked. You will never set clarity yourself, because it is derived from what is actually on the Opportunity. Linking a real Job is the single act that makes an Opportunity Clear.**

When Sales ships, you'll see it as a column on the Sales page and on every Opportunity's summary card. For what an Opportunity is in the first place, see [Sales Opportunities, Not a CRM: A Q3 2026 Preview](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/sales-opportunities-not-a-crm-a-q3-2026-preview-fys7k3/).

# Clarity is not probability

Most sales tools ask you how likely a deal is to close, and then multiply your guess by the value to produce a forecast. The forecast is only as good as the guess, and the guess is a mood.

Net Net will ask a different question, and it is one you can answer honestly:

**Can we plan around this?**

That question has a factual answer. Either the work is defined well enough to schedule against or it is not. Clarity measures that, and nothing else. It says nothing about whether you will win.

# The three Sales Clarity levels

## Fog

No budget set, and no linked Job.

Something real is on the table and you know almost nothing about its shape. This is a legitimate place for an Opportunity to sit. Early conversations live here, and Net Net will not nag you to fill in numbers you do not have.

What you cannot do with a Fog Opportunity is plan around it. It is a placeholder for a conversation, not an input to your capacity.

## Emerging

A budget or value is set, but still no linked Job.

Now you know roughly what it is worth. That is directionally useful. You can weigh it against other work and see it counted on the Sales page. What you still do not have is any structure: no Deliverables, no effort budget by service type, no tasks, no idea who would actually do it.

Emerging is the honest middle. It is more than Fog and less than plannable.

## Clear

At least one Job is linked. That is the whole test.

A linked Job means someone sat down and built a plan: the Deliverables, the effort each one needs, the service types involved. Whether or not you have won it yet, the work now exists in a shape your team could execute.

|| Clear beats Emerging on its own. If an Opportunity has a linked Job, it is Clear even when every value field is blank, because structure is a stronger signal than a number somebody estimated in a meeting.

# Why a linked Job is the bar

Net Net could have made clarity a dropdown you set yourself. It will not work that way, and the reason is worth understanding.

A budget is a guess about the work. A Job plan is a description of the work. Anyone can write a number down in thirty seconds. Building a Job means deciding what the Deliverables are, how much effort each one takes, and which service types it consumes. That takes real thought, and it produces something you can schedule, staff, and measure.

So the highest level of clarity is tied to the highest-signal commitment available: somebody built the plan. See [Plan Stepper: How to Build a Job Plan Step by Step](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/plan-stepper-how-to-build-a-job-plan-step-by-step-95jz87/) for what that involves, which you can do in Net Net today. For the estimating habits that sit behind a good plan, [creating winning sales estimates for projects and retainers](https://hellonetnet.com/create-winning-sales-estimates-for-projects-and-retainers-in-7-easy-steps/) walks through the approach.

This is also why the **Clear** count will sit in the summary strip at the top of the Sales page. It answers the question that actually matters when you look at a pipeline: how much of this could we genuinely plan around tomorrow?

# You will not be able to set clarity by hand

Sales Clarity is derived. There will be no field to edit and no way to override it.

Net Net will recalculate it from exactly two inputs:

- whether a value has been entered
- whether at least one Job is linked

A "budget set" means a project budget on a Project, a monthly value on a Retainer, or at least one entered value in a visible category on a Both Opportunity.

The reason it is not editable is simple. A self-reported clarity level is a self-reported number, and self-reported numbers drift toward optimism on a busy Friday. Derived clarity cannot flatter anybody.

# Linking a Job

Clicking **Link a Job**, on the Opportunity form or on the Opportunity's detail page, will open a search field with a dropdown already showing. Typing filters in real time by **Job name or Job Number**, and selecting a result attaches it straight away.

There will be no checkbox list and no separate selection window. Several Jobs can be linked one after another without leaving the field. Either kind of Job qualifies, and [Projects vs Retainers: Choosing the Right Job Type](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/projects-vs-retainers-choosing-the-right-job-type-4i23qm/) covers the difference between them.

## What can be linked

- **Pending Jobs.** Planned but not switched on yet. This is the common case.
- **Active Jobs.** Already running. Useful when an existing engagement grows.

## What cannot be linked

- **Archived Jobs.** They never appear in the search.
- **Jobs already linked to this Opportunity.** They drop out of the results so you cannot attach the same Job twice.

For what each of those states means, see [Job Lifecycle: Pending, Active, Completed, Archived](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/job-lifecycle-pending-active-completed-archived-1jvg51y/).

Jobs will not be creatable from this field. If the Job does not exist yet, it has to be built in Jobs first and then linked.

||| Linking will never copy anything. A linked Job is a reference, not a duplicate. Nothing about the Job's plan, tasks, or effort budgets is pulled into Sales, and nothing you do in Sales edits the Job. Jobs remain the system of record for the work itself.

# What will happen when you link or unlink

Every link and every removal will do the same four things:

- **Clarity recalculates.** Linking the first Job makes the Opportunity Clear. Removing the last one drops it back to Emerging or Fog, depending on whether a value is set.
- **Value recalculates.** The base value derived from the linked Jobs updates immediately. If you set a manual override, that override stays and stays in charge. Without one, Net Net falls back to whatever base value remains, then to the number you typed.
- **An activity event is written.** Job linked, Job removed. It lands on the same timeline as everything else.
- **The Opportunity's last activity timestamp moves**, which is what puts it back near the top of the Sales page.

Nothing will disappear quietly. If clarity drops on an Opportunity you thought was solid, the Activity Feed tells you when it happened and who did it. See [Sales Page Filters, Totals, and the Activity Feed](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/sales-page-filters-totals-and-the-activity-feed-euy4h3/).

# The everyday pattern

Most Opportunities will walk the same path, and it is fine for that to take weeks.

1. A conversation starts. You create the Opportunity. It is **Fog**.
2. A number surfaces. You enter it. It is **Emerging**.
3. Someone builds the Job plan and links it. It is **Clear**, and the value can now come from the plan instead of the guess.
4. You win it, and Net Net offers to activate the linked Job.

Clarity going up over time is the shape you want. Clarity that never moves is telling you something too.

# Frequently Asked Questions

###### Is Sales Clarity in Net Net today?

**No. Sales is coming in Q3 2026, after the Performance Dashboards.** There is no Sales page and no clarity column in the app yet. This article previews the model so you can think about your pipeline in these terms ahead of time.

###### What are the three Sales Clarity levels?

**Fog, Emerging, and Clear.** Fog means no budget and no linked Job. Emerging means a budget is set but no Job is linked yet. Clear means at least one Job is linked, which is the point where the work is structured enough to plan against.

###### Will I be able to set an Opportunity's clarity myself?

**No. Clarity is derived and there will be no field to edit.** Net Net calculates it from two facts only: whether a value has been entered, and whether at least one Job is linked. That keeps it honest, because a level you could set by hand would drift toward optimism.

###### Why does linking a Job matter more than entering a budget?

**Because a budget is a guess about the work and a Job plan is a description of it.** A linked Job means the Deliverables, the effort budgets, and the service types already exist, so the work could be scheduled and staffed. That is a much stronger signal than a number.

###### Which Jobs will I be able to link to an Opportunity?

**Pending and Active Jobs.** Archived Jobs never appear in the search, and any Job already linked to this Opportunity is filtered out. Jobs cannot be created from the linking field, so the Job has to exist first.

###### What will happen if I remove a linked Job?

**Clarity and value both recalculate immediately, and the change is written to the Activity Feed.** If removing it leaves no linked Jobs, the Opportunity drops to Emerging or Fog. Any manual override you set on the value stays in place.

###### Will linking a Job copy the Job into Sales?

**No. A linked Job is a reference, not a copy.** No plan, tasks, or effort budgets are duplicated into the Opportunity, and editing the Opportunity never changes the Job. Sales points at Jobs, and Jobs stay the system of record.

###### An Opportunity has a linked Job but no value at all. What clarity is it?

**Clear.** A linked Job outranks everything else, so the Opportunity is Clear even with every value field left blank. Structure is the test, not the number.
