# My Lists: The Private Capture Space Only You Can See

**In brief:** My Lists is your private capture space: type an idea, press Enter, and nobody else can see it, not an Admin and not an Owner.

**Applies to:** Everyone in the workspace, for their own lists only. There is no admin override anywhere in the product.

**See also:** Turning a List Item into a Task: Quick or Job Task covers promoting an item into real work, and Quick Tasks vs Job Tasks vs My Lists: Which to Use covers where each kind of work belongs.

**My Lists is your private capture space inside Net Net. Type an idea, press Enter, keep going. Nothing here counts toward your [Performance](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/my-performance-your-own-effort-never-a-scorecard-1lcr4jc/), your capacity, or any report, and nobody else can see it, not an Admin and not an Owner. It's the place your half-formed thoughts live until you decide whether they're real work.**

You'll find it under **Me → My Lists**.

# Capture first, organize later

At the bottom of the screen there's an input labeled **Add a list item**. It's always there.

Type something and press Enter. The item is created in whatever folder you're currently viewing, the input clears, and the cursor stays put so you can keep typing. Type, Enter, type, Enter. Get it out of your head before you lose it.

That's the whole point of the screen. Structure is optional and comes later, if it comes at all. When one of those thoughts turns out to be real work, [Turning a List Item into a Task: Quick or Job Task](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/turning-a-list-item-into-a-task-quick-or-job-task-a6ba65/) carries the name and description straight across into a task.

| Dump everything into General during a call, then sort it out afterward. Sorting fast beats sorting neatly.

# The General folder

Every My Lists has a folder called **General**, and it always will.

General can't be deleted, can't be renamed, and always sits first in the folder list. If you never create another folder, everything you capture lives there. It's the safety net that guarantees there's always somewhere for an item to go.

# Editing items

**The name.** Click it. The text becomes editable. Enter saves, Esc cancels, clicking away saves.

**The description.** Every item can carry one. If there isn't one yet you'll see **Add description**. Click it and a field opens under the name. Enter saves, Shift + Enter adds a line, Esc cancels, clicking away saves. Plain text only, and it comes along with you if you later turn the item into a task.

# Folders

Press **Folders** to open the folder panel.

* **Choosing a folder** switches what the item list shows. The folder you're in is labeled above the list, so you always know where new items will land.
* **Creating one:** type a name in the **New folder name** field at the bottom of the panel and press Enter. If you have a folder selected at the time, the new folder is created underneath it.
* **Deleting one:** each folder except General has a ⋮ menu with Delete. Deleting a folder deletes the items inside it.
* **Bulk cleanup:** turn on folder multi-select to tick several folders and delete them together. That one asks you to confirm first.

To move an item somewhere else, open its ⋮ menu and choose **Move to folder...**, then pick the destination.

# Multi-select and bulk delete

The checkbox icon in the header turns select mode on and off. It's the same button both ways, so there's no separate cancel.

While select mode is on, the completion checkboxes are replaced by selection checkboxes, you get a **Select all**, and a trash icon appears once something is ticked. Bulk deleting opens a confirmation that says plainly it can't be undone.

# Completing versus deleting

These are two very different things, and the difference matters.

**Completing** an item means ticking its green checkbox. The item is archived: out of your active list, still in Net Net. Open the archive icon in the header to see everything you've completed. Nothing was destroyed.

**Deleting** an item removes it. There's no archive behind it and no undo.

||| Delete is permanent in My Lists. If you just want an item off your active list, tick its checkbox to archive it instead.

# Absolutely private

Most of Net Net has a support path built in. Owners and Admins can view another person's work in [My Tasks](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/my-tasks-every-task-assigned-to-you-in-one-list-14wzzg7/) or their entries in [My Time](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/my-time-log-your-effort-and-fix-what-you-missed-1io56rv/) to help them fix something.

My Lists has no such path, on purpose. No role can see another person's My Lists. An Owner cannot see a Member's. There is no admin override anywhere in the product.

This is a design decision rather than an oversight. My Lists is where you sketch the idea you're not sure about yet, write the reminder you'd be embarrassed to have read out loud, and think in half sentences. That only works if it's genuinely yours.

# What My Lists doesn't do

It's a capture layer, not a project management tool. There's no sharing, no due dates or priorities on items, no rich text in descriptions, and no separate lists beyond the folders. [Quick Tasks vs Job Tasks vs My Lists: Which to Use](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/quick-tasks-vs-job-tasks-vs-my-lists-which-to-use-1hlzaoy/) lays out where each kind of work belongs.

If an item needs any of that, it's ready to become a real task. See [Turning a List Item into a Task: Quick or Job Task](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/turning-a-list-item-into-a-task-quick-or-job-task-a6ba65/).

# Frequently Asked Questions

###### Can anyone else see my lists?

**No. My Lists is completely private, with no exceptions.** No role can view another person's lists, including Owners and Admins, and there is no admin override. That privacy is the point of the feature.

###### Do list items count toward my Performance or capacity?

**No. Items in My Lists are not work.** They don't appear in Performance, they don't consume capacity, and they don't show up in reports. They only start counting once you turn them into a Quick Task or a Job Task.

###### What happens when I tick an item's checkbox?

**It's archived, not deleted.** The item leaves your active list and moves into the archived view, which you open with the archive icon in the header. Everything you've completed stays there.

###### Can I get a deleted list item back?

**No. Deleting is permanent in My Lists, for single items and for bulk deletes.** If you only want an item out of the way, complete it instead, which archives it and keeps it.

###### Can I delete the General folder?

**No. General always exists and can't be deleted or renamed.** It's the default home for anything you capture and guarantees there's always somewhere for an item to live.

###### What happens to the items in a folder I delete?

**They're deleted with it.** Deleting a folder removes the items inside it, so move anything you want to keep to another folder first using the item's ⋮ menu.

###### How do I turn a list item into real work?

**Open the item's ⋮ menu and choose Create Task...** The Create Task drawer opens with the name and description already filled in, and you pick whether it becomes a Quick Task or a Job Task.
