# Joining an Existing Workspace: Invites and Join Requests

**In brief:** Join an existing workspace two ways: click the invite link emailed to you, or sign up with your work email and request access.

**Applies to:** Anyone joining a team that already uses Net Net. Your role arrives with the invite, and joining costs the team nothing.

**See also:** User Roles Explained: Owner, Admin, Lead, and Member covers what your role lets you touch, and Managing Team Members, Invites, and Join Requests covers the admin side of invites and reactivations.

**There are two ways to join a workspace that already exists. If someone invited you, click the link in the email and Net Net puts you on the one right screen, with your email already filled in and your role already decided. If nobody invited you, sign up with your work email and Net Net will suggest any workspace your email domain matches, so you can ask to join rather than accidentally starting a second one. Either way a real person on that team has already said yes, or is about to. Nothing about the workspace changes because you arrived.**

You will find this at netnet.app, either from an invitation email or from signing up.

# If you were invited

This is the short path, and it is short on purpose. Most people who get invited to Net Net have never heard of Net Net, so the flow is built to ask you as little as possible.

## What happens

You get an email that says you have been invited to work in a workspace. Click through, and you land on a page that already knows which workspace this is and which role you were given.

From there Net Net works out who you are and sends you to exactly the right screen. You never have to diagnose yourself.

**You do not have a Net Net account yet.** You go to a Sign Up screen with your email already filled in and locked. Add your name and a password, agree to the terms, and you are in. There is no separate verification code, because opening the invite from your own inbox already proved the address is yours.

**You already have a Net Net account.** You go to a Log In screen, email already filled in. Log in and the new workspace is added to your account alongside the ones you already have, reachable from the workspace switcher.

**You are already signed in as the invited address.** One button. "Join [Workspace]" and you are through.

**You are signed in as a different account.** Net Net stops and tells you so, and offers a single Log out button. It does not offer to attach the invite to whichever account you happen to be using, because an invite belongs to the exact address it was sent to. Log out and the flow picks straight back up on the right screen.

| Forgot your password halfway through? Use the reset link right there. The invite stays attached through the whole reset, so setting a new password lands you in the workspace anyway. You never have to go dig the invitation email back out.

## What you do not have to decide

Your **role** came with the invite. Whoever invited you chose Owner, Admin, Lead, or Member, and that is what you land as. If it turns out to be wrong, an Owner or Admin can change it in **Settings → Team** in a couple of clicks. See [User Roles Explained: Owner, Admin, Lead, and Member](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/user-roles-explained-owner-admin-lead-and-member-ikpfu1/).

There is nothing to configure and nothing to pay. Net Net is priced by active Job rather than per seat, so your arrival does not change anyone's bill. The billing side of adding people is covered in [Teammates and Billing: Why Adding People Costs Nothing](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/teammates-and-billing-why-adding-people-costs-nothing-1qhsp2j/).

## Two rules about the link

**It expires after 7 days.** If yours has gone stale, ask whoever invited you to send a fresh one. They delete the pending invite and send again. It takes them ten seconds.

**It works once, and only for your address.** The link is bound to the email it was sent to, so forwarding it to a colleague will not get them in. They need their own invite.

||| Treat the link like a password. It carries your email address and it opens a workspace. Send it to yourself, not to a shared inbox or a group thread.

## When the link does not work

The page tells you which thing is wrong in plain words rather than showing a generic error. You might see:

- **This invite has expired.** Ask for a fresh one.
- **This invite is no longer available.** It was revoked. Ask for a new one.
- **This invite was declined.** Ask for another if you still need access.
- **You already have access.** Just log in with the invited email.
- **This workspace is not available.** Something is wrong on the workspace's side. Talk to the person who invited you.

| If you are the admin and someone tells you "the link didn't work," ask them what the page said. The wording tells you immediately whether to send a new invite or just tell them to log in.

# If nobody invited you

Sometimes you know your team is on Net Net but nobody has got around to adding you. You do not have to wait, and you should not start your own workspace.

## Sign up with your work email

Sign up normally at netnet.app. If your email domain matches an existing workspace, Net Net shows you a workspace picker with a **possible workspaces** list on it: the workspace name, the domain it matched on, and a button to ask for access.

You can write a short message with your request, which is worth doing. "Hi, it's Sam from design" gets approved considerably faster than a bare email address.

If more than one workspace matches your domain, all of them are listed and each request is independent. Ask more than one if you genuinely are not sure which team you belong to.

## What happens next

Your request goes into **Pending** and sits there. You do not have access yet, and nothing about that workspace changes because you asked.

An Owner or Admin over there reviews it and either approves you, which converts the request into real membership immediately, denies it, or blocks it. Approval is always a human decision. A matching email domain never grants access on its own, it only suggests where you probably meant to go.

If your request gets denied, that is not permanent. It usually just means the timing was wrong or the person reviewing it did not recognize the address. Ask a colleague to invite you directly instead, which works even over a previous denial.

## Generic email addresses do not match

Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail, iCloud, and similar consumer domains never trigger a workspace suggestion, because half the internet shares them. If you signed up with a personal address, the suggestion list will be empty and that is correct behavior, not a bug. Ask for a direct invite to that address instead.

## You can always just make your own

Nothing forces you into someone else's workspace. The picker keeps a create-your-own option, and you can build a fresh workspace and get on with your day. See [Creating Your Net Net Workspace: The Three Setup Steps](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/creating-your-net-net-workspace-the-three-setup-steps-vfcqp3/).

# Coming back to a workspace you were in before

This one has a wrinkle worth knowing, and it is the single most common support question in this whole area.

If you used to be on a team and your access was turned off when you left, **you are not gone from that workspace.** Net Net deactivates people rather than deleting them, because deleting you would leave holes in every Job you touched and every report that reads them. The same reasoning applies across the product, as [Why Some Things Can't Be Deleted: Archive, Retire, Move](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/why-some-things-cant-be-deleted-archive-retire-move-si6k0l/) explains. Your record is still there in the Inactive view.

**Getting you back is a reactivation, not a new invite.** An Owner or Admin opens **Settings → Team**, switches to the Inactive view, finds your row, and activates you. Your history, your role, and your place in every past Job come back with you.

||| Sending a fresh invite to a former teammate does not work. Because their record already exists in the workspace, a new invite will not restore their access and will not apply the role you put on it. Reactivate them from the Inactive view in Team instead. It is one click.

Three short stops and you are working.

1. **[Managing Your Personal Profile: Name, Photo, Password](https://help.netnet.app/en-us/article/managing-your-personal-profile-name-photo-password-1ti0kyb/).** Add your name and a photo. Your identity belongs to you rather than to the workspace, so nobody there can set it for you.

# Frequently Asked Questions

###### How do I join a Net Net workspace?

**Either accept an invitation or send a join request.** If someone invited you, click the link in the email and Net Net routes you to sign up or log in with your email already filled in. If nobody invited you, sign up with your work email and Net Net will suggest any workspace matching your email domain so you can ask for access.

###### How long is an invitation link good for?

**7 days, and it works once.** It is also tied to the exact email address it was sent to, so it cannot be forwarded. If yours expired, ask the person who invited you to delete the pending invite and send a fresh one.

###### Do I need to verify my email if I was invited?

**No. Opening the invite from your inbox already proves the address is yours.** You create your account straight from the invitation page with your email locked in, set a password, and land in the workspace. There is no separate confirmation code step.

###### I clicked an invite and it says I am signed in as someone else. What now?

**Log out using the button on that page, and the flow continues automatically.** An invite only works for the address it was sent to, and Net Net will not attach it to a different account. If you want access on your other address instead, ask an Owner or Admin to invite that address directly.

###### I asked to join and nothing happened. Is it broken?

**No. Join requests sit in Pending until a human approves them.** A matching email domain only suggests where you probably meant to go, it never grants access. Nudge someone on the team, or ask them to invite you directly, which works even if a request was denied earlier.

###### Why did Net Net not suggest any workspace when I signed up?

**Most likely you signed up with a personal email address.** Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail, and iCloud addresses never match workspaces, because they are shared by millions of people. Ask a teammate to invite that address directly instead.

###### I used to work here and I am coming back. Should someone re-invite me?

**No. Ask an Owner or Admin to reactivate you from Settings → Team, in the Inactive view.** Your record never left the workspace. A new invite will not restore your access or apply the role on it, because a membership already exists for you. Reactivating brings back your access and your entire history.

###### Who picks my role, and can I change it?

**Whoever invited you picked it, and it travels with the invitation.** You land as Owner, Admin, Lead, or Member without choosing anything. Only an Owner or Admin can change it afterwards, in Settings → Team.

###### Does joining a workspace cost me or my team anything?

**No. Net Net is priced by active Job, never per person.** Adding staff, contractors, and freelancers does not move the bill, which is exactly why teams are encouraged to invite everyone who touches the work.
